Gethsemane is a congregation in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). We have been making Christ known since 1911. We are committed to serving with our sister congregation in the Corydon Lutheran Parish, St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, in Harrison and surrounding counties.
We are a congregation of about 30 members ranging in age from not quite 1 to 100 years old and we love gathering together. We gather together on Sunday mornings in our worship space to come into God's presence and hear God's Word and experience His grace and love. We hear stories from the Bible read aloud and we work together to understand what God is saying to our lives today.
We encourage everyone to come to worship as they are comfortable. We don't have a dress code, so you will see people in dress clothes and in their jeans and t-shirts. We want you to come as you are not as you think we expect you to be.
Our worship services are liturgical, which simply means we follow a specific form of worship found in our hymnals. We spend around forty-five minutes together in worship each Sunday. Our singing is accompanied by a piano and a song leader.
We also love to have children in worship. God created children and He put the wiggles and the giggles in them. Worship is a time for families and we encourage families to be together during the service, even if there is squirming, crying or giggling. We also provide children's bags with coloring books, crayons, and toys for use during our services.
Holy Communion is shared the first Sunday of the month and on special days. We believe that this is God's great gift to us and all who are baptized and believe that Christ himself is present are invited to join us at the table. And even if you're not positive, you are still welcome because we understand that we all have doubts and God meets us where we are in our journey of faith! Children and those who are not baptized are welcome to come forward during communion to receive a blessing.
We collect a voluntary offering that supports the mission of our congregation to make Christ known. We conduct many ministries of care in the area and around the world and if you choose to make an offering, we will be faithful stewards of your gift.
